PUNE: Issues like the need for extra police personnel to handle ugly fights between couples at the family court, separate bar rooms for men and women advocates and a well-equipped e-library will be taken up at the state-wide conference of the Family Court Lawyer's Association.
The conference will be held on September 25 in Pune. It will be attended by over five hundred advocates of the family court benches from Mumbai (Bandra and Thane), Pune, Nagpur, Nashik, Aurangabad and Akola to discuss long-pending issues, said Prafulla Bhavsar, president of the Family Court Lawyers' Association, Pune.
"The conference of lawyers will deliberate over the formation of a formal federation of family court lawyers across the state, which will provide a common platform to take up our concerns and needs. We will also press for implementation of the uniform civil code in order to simplify petitions related to marriage and divorce," said Sunil Kotlikar, vice-president.
Other demands include: a child access room within the premises of the under-construction building of the family court in Shivajinagar, the appointment of psychiatrists apart from family and child counsellors to deal with extreme cases of marital discord and violence, an ATM, lockers and adequate table space for their papers, said Kotlikar. "We also need a comprehensive e-library dedicated to legal issues which will make it easy for us to take notes and conduct our research," he said.
At the end of the conference, an application detailing all their requirements would be forwarded to the Bombay High Court, Kotlikar said.
